Pianist, Accompanist and Piano Teacher

About Me

Originally from Saltash in Cornwall, I began learning the piano aged 5 with Mrs Leith Kassier and later with Mr Philip R Buttall studying with both teachers for a while. During these early years I performed frequently in local concerts and competed regularly in the Saltash, Plymouth and Torbay music festivals winning many prizes. I also passed the Associated Board Grade 8 piano with Distinction.

I moved to Manchester in 2000 to study with Mr John Gough at the Royal Northern College of Music where I completed a Bachelor of Music with Honours. During my time at the RNCM I played frequently as an orchestral pianist and also took lessons in Jazz piano and piano accompaniment. I was also fortunate to be able to study with Russian virtuoso Alexander Melnikov. I have also participated in masterclasses with distinguished pianists such as William Howard and Cristina Ortiz.

I was instructed in the Art of Teaching by both Judith Burton and Helen Krizos. I also completed the Diploma of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music during this period.

On completing my degree I moved to Timperley, Altrincham and am now based in Hale.

I am active professionally in 3 key areas; Performance, Accompaniment and as a Piano Teacher, which are covered in more detail on their own separate web pages.

As a child I also learnt to play the cello, initially with Denise Hashill and Mike Jennings and then at secondary level with Elizabeth Baker achieving the Grade 8 standard. Whilst I still enjoy playing the cello repetoire it has now become a hobby rather than a professional activity.
